The two main assignments that I did in On Democracy that accomplished this goal were the Nickel and Dimed essay and the Nepal Scenario.
The first assignment was the Nickel and Dimed essay. This essay really helped my understand the wage gap my country is currently facing. I was able to understand person struggles Barbara Ehrenreich faced and the different obstacles she had to overcome. when living the life of a low wage worker in America. In many ways, the obstacles and issues she faced were based around her personal ethics, culture, gender and race. I learned that every individual is impacted differently by the amount of money they have and how this coincides with their daily events. I really gained appreciation for the life I live and my daily quality of life.
The second assignment was the Nepal Scenario. This assignment helped me focus on discoverying how diverse one specific group of people could be. The Nepal Scenario helped me understand that everyone is different and diverse. This scenario taught me that being identified from the same race and gender is not enough. You have to dig deeper and identify other characteristic of each person. This scenario was definitely an eye-opener.
